It corresponds to amino acids 176–191 of the human growth hormone (hGH) sequence, with a tyrosine substitution at the N-terminus to improve stability. The compound was designed to isolate the lipolytic properties of full-length hGH without reproducing its anabolic, diabetogenic, or IGF-1-elevating activity.

The primary body of preclinical work has focused on adipose tissue metabolism, fat oxidation, and beta-adrenergic signaling in rodent obesity models.
